New Invention - Meet Edison - a super cheap programmable robot

Programming:

Edison is programmed with EdWare, an icon-based graphical programming language. Download the program to Edison using the EdComm cable. The EdComm cable plugs into the computer's headphone jack and sends a pulsed audio signal to the high-efficiency LEDs. The LEDs convert the pulsing audio signal into light, which is received by Edison's line-following phototransistors and load the program into the processor.

How to solve the freewheel problem?

This is a free wheel solution. This is caused by the small snail in the internal motor. Easy to fix. You will need a small Allen key or Allen key.

- Remove the battery
- Remove the screws at the top of the device.
- Remove the clear plastic cover. From there you can see the screws that hold the circuit board in place.
- Unscrew the screws of the circuit board and take out the circuit board.
- Remove the DC motor rubber cover and take out the motor. Once this is done you will notice that there is no worm gear at the end of the DC motor.
- Locate the worm wheel and reinstall it. To orientate yourself, you can compare other small engines.
- Spin the DC motor and watch the wheel spin.

Hours of fun for kids (and adults)

That makes more sense than blocking. Keep your kids busy for hours. You can also build on it with existing LEGO bricks. There are many programming options and tons of ideas and tutorials online.
The purchase went smoothly, as did the click and collect process at the Manukau store

more complete than it seems

I teach with various programmable robots (Spheros, Mini Spheros, Ozobots, mBots and Tello) so I was quite skeptical about the Edison at first. I was pleasantly surprised by its versatility, I like the simplicity of edscratch's block language.

A handy all-in-one LEGO coding app for kids.

With the ever-changing technology platforms, Edison is a really cool way for kids to get a hands-on feel for programming. My 9 year old was experimenting with Edison and the add on packs, the coding part was creative and it was great to see how much fun he was having coding. I suggested you add this to your minecraft underwater pyramid. The Octopus can use the Gear Cycle character to hunt down invaders. Lego is awesome and it amazes me how creative kids are. Edison could extend this creativity to even greater heights of imagination. Registration is strongly encouraged...See more

Great idea, bad implementation.

I really like the idea, but the data (sound) transfer mechanism is just wrong and unnecessary in the age of Micro-USB, Bluetooth, USB-C or any other reasonable data transfer standard. fail.

amazing Edison

I bought this product to use in my classroom at school but it would also make a great toy for my own children. Highly recommend, especially for the price of PB!
It's a particularly good choice for kids interested in robotics and LEGO, as the beams it contains are perfect for all major building systems that use this type of beam (yes, I've tried it!). I will probably buy another one in the future and the expansion set as it has proven to be a winner!

A must for all young programmers (and older programmers who like to play)

This smart little robot can be programmed in a variety of ways. It uses the three computer languages edblocks, edscratch and edpy. Edscratch is similar to the scratching taught in school code clubs and transfers the code from the screen to the real world. The Edison has built-in sensors that can be programmed to do many things. You can also program it by entering a special barcode (free download). It features holes and LEGO studs so you can use it to move models built with your favorite toy bricks. There are many videos on You Tube. These little robots are excellent and well worth the money. Recommended for everyone.

economical product

The students in the classroom love this one - a very powerful little robot that helps students get started with the basics of coding and programming at a reasonable price. Kids love the ability to build around them with LEGO and let their imaginations run wild. With additional kits you can build new robots from basic machines. I love the guides available online to help you (and me) understand how to use these amazing little robots.

excellent educational product

The product is inexpensive. It has all the built-in features needed to run a basic robot, such as: B. Light sensitivity and obstacle detection. It can be a good introduction to programming as it can be programmed using block languages and Python. In the classroom, it is durable and unbreakable. Your online documentation is second to none.
The lack of the last star is due to two things: the somewhat unreliable communication between robots via infrared and the inability to add programmable accessories.
Overall, however, it is a quality product at a very reasonable price.

The class activities are very interesting. With a simple scratching routine, you can signal your car to start moving. I can imagine us having hours of fun with all ages... I just wish our little school in the country had a tight budget.
